Strengthening Organizational Readiness to Improve Funding Outcomes and Reduce Risk.

Funding Without Readiness Creates Risk.

Nonprofit Readiness Intelligence helps nonprofit professionals build readiness knowledge and helps organizations evaluate and strengthen their operational systems. Participants earn NRI Professional Certification by completing the required course and Participant Workbook and passing the 50-question Certification Exam with a score of at least 80%. Organizations separately receive an NRI Readiness Score, Readiness Report, and Improvement Plan after completing the Organizational Readiness Scorecard.

The NRI Mission

Strong missions deserve strong systems.

Many organizations receive funding before fully understanding the operational, reporting, documentation, accountability, and compliance responsibilities associated with managing an award.

NRI combines individual professional certification with a separate organizational readiness assessment. Participants complete the required course and Participant Workbook and take a 50-question Certification Exam. After a participant passes with a score of at least 80%, the organization's Organizational Readiness Scorecard is unlocked. The organization then completes the Scorecard to receive its NRI Readiness Score, Readiness Report, and Improvement Plan.

Why Readiness Matters

Funders may believe in a nonprofit's mission, services, and pitch, but still need confidence that the organization can manage funding responsibly.

NRI helps bridge the gap between funding interest and funding readiness.

The NRI Program

NRI Professional Certification & Organizational Readiness.

The NRI Professional Certification Program prepares nonprofit professionals to understand the governance, financial management, compliance, internal control, documentation, reporting, and accountability responsibilities associated with managing grants, contracts, and other funding awards.

Each participant completes the required course and Participant Workbook before taking a 50-question Certification Exam. A minimum score of 80% is required to earn NRI Professional Certification. Passing the exam unlocks the Organizational Readiness Scorecard. After the organization completes the Scorecard, NRI calculates its NRI Readiness Score and provides a Readiness Report and Improvement Plan.

Whether you are an individual nonprofit professional, an organization investing in staff development, or a funder seeking to strengthen the readiness of nonprofit partners, NRI offers flexible ways to participate. All delivery formats follow the same professional certification requirements and organizational readiness sequence.

Option 01

Self-Paced Professional Certification

Complete the required course and Participant Workbook through the NRI learning platform on your own schedule. After meeting the course requirements, take the 50-question Certification Exam. Participants who score at least 80% earn NRI Professional Certification.

  • NRI Participant Workbook
  • Course knowledge checks
  • 50-question Certification Exam
  • NRI Professional Certification after passing
Option 02

Instructor-Led Professional Certification

Complete the required readiness curriculum through live virtual or in-person instruction. Participants use the NRI Participant Workbook throughout the course and take the same 50-question Certification Exam required for NRI Professional Certification.

  • Live instruction
  • Group discussion and practical application
  • NRI Participant Workbook
  • 50-question Certification Exam
  • NRI Professional Certification after earning at least 80%
Option 03

Organizational Cohorts

Foundations, government agencies, nonprofit associations, United Ways, and other sponsoring organizations may enroll groups of professionals in a shared learning experience. Each participant receives an individual account and must independently complete the course, workbook, and Certification Exam requirements.

  • Individual participant accounts
  • Customized cohort delivery
  • Participant progress and certification tracking
  • Organizational Readiness Scorecard access after the required participant earns NRI Professional Certification
  • Readiness reporting and optional technical assistance

What Every Participant Receives

  • An individual NRI participant account
  • Required organizational readiness training
  • The NRI Participant Workbook and practical tools
  • Course knowledge checks
  • Access to the 50-question Certification Exam after completing the course requirements
  • NRI Professional Certification after earning a minimum score of 80%

After a participant passes the Certification Exam, the organization's Organizational Readiness Scorecard is unlocked. Once the organization completes the Scorecard, NRI calculates its NRI Readiness Score and provides a Readiness Report and Improvement Plan.

Professional Certification and Organizational Readiness

A clear process from professional certification to organizational readiness.

NRI first verifies an individual participant's understanding of readiness requirements through professional certification. The organization then completes a separate readiness assessment to receive its NRI Readiness Score, Readiness Report, and Improvement Plan.

Step 01

Registration and Account

The participant registers and receives an individual NRI learning account.

Step 02

Course and Workbook

The participant completes all required course modules, learning activities, and the NRI Participant Workbook.

Step 03

Certification Exam

After meeting the course requirements, the participant takes the 50-question NRI Certification Exam.

Step 04

80% Passing Score

A minimum score of 80% is required to earn NRI Professional Certification.

Step 05

Organizational Scorecard

After the participant passes, the organization's Organizational Readiness Scorecard is unlocked. An authorized organizational representative then completes the Scorecard.

Step 06

Organizational Readiness Results

NRI calculates the organization's NRI Readiness Score and provides a Readiness Report and Improvement Plan identifying strengths, gaps, and recommended priorities.

For Funders

Reduce risk before funding problems occur.

NRI gives funders two distinct readiness signals. NRI Professional Certification confirms that an individual participant has completed the required course and Participant Workbook and passed the 50-question Certification Exam with a score of at least 80%.

The organization's readiness is evaluated separately. After certification unlocks the Organizational Readiness Scorecard, the organization completes the Scorecard and receives an NRI Readiness Score, Readiness Report, and Improvement Plan. These results can support funding and capacity-building conversations but do not replace funder oversight or due diligence.
